MONROE - No candidate for Green County clerk appeared on Tuesday's fall primary ballot, but that doesn't mean no one is running.
Candidates not affiliated with a political party are not allowed on primary ballots, and incumbent Mike Doyle is running unopposed as an independent in November.
About 105 write-in votes were cast Tuesday for county clerk, according to Doyle.
"They had names all over the place," he said.
The write-in candidate with the most votes was himself - and those who voted for him seemed unsure of his party affiliation.
"Some were written on the Republican part, some were written on the Democratic part," he said.
Doyle formerly ran for office as a Republican.
