MONROE - The Monroe school district will try to sell two cars on an online auction website before deciding what to do with three other cars they intend to sell.

Ron Olson, the district's business manager, said the district has accumulated old items that are no longer being used. Depending on the item and its condition, the district will either sell or dispose of it.

They are "potentially" looking to sell three Toyota Corollas and two PT Cruisers, Olson said, with the possibility of more.

The Corollas have a rough Blue Book value between $3,000 and $5,600, and the cars are in "pretty good shape," Olson said.

Board member Scott Schmidt recommended using Wisconsin Surplus Online Auction to sell the cars, which was met with general agreement by the rest of the board at the Monday, July 14 finance committee meeting. The committee decided to put two cars up on the auction website as a test run.

After that, the finance committee will decide what to do with the rest of the vehicles.

Olson said they should be posted to Wisconsin Surplus by the end of this week or next.

Other items on the chopping block include old fitness equipment, some items from the tech ed department at the middle school and old furniture.

One board member suggested seeing if a class could take on the project of running a rummage sale if there was enough equipment worth selling.

Money made from selling the equipment goes into the school district's general fund. Anything that doesn't sell will be sent to a salvage yard, Olson said.
