MONROE - Main Street Monroe brings the 1970s vibe to downtown Monroe on Friday for the next Concert on the Square.

Cookie and the Real Deal starts the party at 6:30 p.m. with plenty of current hits (Bruno Mars and Ceelo Green) plus classic disco-era hits from Donna Summer. Lead vocalist, Da'Quela "Cookie" Payne, is a former American Idol contestant and is playing in Monroe for the first time.

Concert-goers are encouraged to share in the funk by wearing their disco best. Leisure suits, anyone?

John and Katie Baumann Inspiration Project provide funding for concert intermissions and other activities throughout the season.

Main Street Monroe's featured nonprofit for the evening is Faith Addiction Awareness. Faith Addiction Awareness works to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of addiction by providing education, resources and support for affected individuals, families and communities, according the news release.

There will be food booths and the Main Street Beverage Garden that offers a selection of beer, including local brews, plus wine at the wine stand.

Concertgoers can enter for a chance to win the "Best Seat in the House" contest with premium seating on custom Adirondack chairs from Wooden Trooper, plus refreshments and swag. Sign up all summer at Heartland Graphics; winners are drawn before each show.

The final concert of the season will be Corey Cox on Aug. 24 (Corey Cox). For the latest updates follow "Downtown Monroe Events and News" on Facebook or visit the web site mainstreetmonroe.org.

Concert attendees are asked to please make use of the trash cans and recycling stations that are provided, and to pick up after themselves.

Volunteers to help with clean-up or set-up duties are always needed, according to the release. For details contact Main Street Monroe Executive Director Jordan Nordby at 608-328-4023 or monroemainstreet@tds.net.
