Monroe Police Department
On Monday, March 14 the detour route for the 8th and 9th Street, Water, Sewer and Street Reconstruction Project will go into effect. The detour route will include 12th Street between 20th and 13th Avenues, 13th Avenue between 12th and 10th Streets, and 10th and 11th Streets between 13th Avenue and Wisconsin 69. The construction area will include the area between 8th Avenue and 20th Avenue on 8th and 9th Streets. There will still be access to the Downtown Square and businesses along 8th and 9th Streets. In addition, the Badger State Bike Trail will have some rerouting due to the removal of the old railroad bridge on 8th Street, east of 8th Avenue.

The detour will include some changes in traffic control and traffic direction, and long lengths of no parking areas.

• There will be a temporary four-way stop on 20th Avenue at 12th Street, stopping all traffic, during the construction period.

• There will be a temporary three-way stop on 13th Avenue at 12th Street, stopping all traffic on 12th Street, and northbound traffic on 13th Avenue, during the construction period.

• There will be new permanent stop signs on 12th Street at 14th, 15th, 18th and 19th Avenues, stopping traffic on the avenues, all of which were T-intersections. These will stay after the construction period. The normal traffic control on 12th Street at 16th and 17th Avenues will remain in effect.

• 10th Street between 13th Avenue and Wisconsin 69 will be one-way westbound only, temporarily during the construction period.

• 11th Street between Wisconsin 69 and 13th Avenue will be one-way, eastbound only, temporarily during the construction period.

• There will be a temporary no-parking zone on the south side of 11th Street between Wisconsin 69 and 13th Avenue, during the construction period.

• There will be a temporary no-parking zone on the north side of 10th Street between 13th Avenue and Wisconsin 69, during the construction period.

All of these changes have been, or will be set up with signs on Monday, March 14. They are clearly marked. Some will have extra flags on the sign posts to bring attention to the changes. It is realized that often motorists drive routes by habit, but motorists are asked to take extra precautions to watch for signs and traffic control changes to avoid accidents.

This route will be in place until some time in the fall. Actual construction will be starting soon, and while 8th and 9th Street may still be open in sections for awhile, the construction will be in phases and could change day to day. It is recommended that the detour is used to avoid long delays. We ask for your patience until fall, until this large construction project is completed.
