Dept. of Tourism gives grant to local Renaissance festival

NEW GLARUS - Shakespeare on the Edge Inc. received a Joint Effort Marketing grant from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism for $34,687. The money will be used for A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians: A Renaissance Faire, to be held Oct. 14-15. The projected economic impact of this event is approximately between $462,000 to over $500,000 during the two-day fair.

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians: A Renaissance Faire.

JEM grant funds are available to nonprofit organizations for the promotion of Wisconsin tourism events and destinations. The state can fund a portion of a project's advertising and marketing costs for up to three years until the project becomes self-suswtaining.
