Deaths of 3 dogs under investigation

DARLINGTON - The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department is investigating the deaths of three dogs on a Willow Springs farm earlier this week.

Two puppies and a five-year-old Australian shepherd were found dead Sunday on a farm on Ballard Road, Town of Willow Springs. The animals were reportedly foaming at the mouth.

Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill said no signs of violence were found on the animals and one of the dogs' owners had told deputies that there was little likelihood that the animals could have accidentally ingested a poisonous substance such as antifreeze.

Gill said the dogs' owners transported two of the animals to a Madison hospital.

Gill said the animals' owners suspect the involvement of a neighbor but stressed that there is currently no person of interest in the case.

"There is no evidence to link the neighbor to this," Gill said. "Right now, we don't have much to go on until the autopsy results come in."

Anyone with information about the case can contact the Lafayette County Crimestoppers at 377-232-8477 or the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office at 608-776-4870.
