DARLINGTON — A 56-year-old Darlington man told police he received videos and photographs of children engaging in sex from a Facebook friend but didn’t think he was doing anything wrong, according to a criminal complaint filed earlier this month in Lafayette County Circuit Court.
Juan Velazquez-Lopez was arrested Dec. 30 after Darlington police executed a search warrant on his home in the 300 block of Keep Street.
He is being held on a $25,000 cash bond. He faces 10 Class D felony counts of possessing child pornography and one Class H felony charge of forgery.
The forgery charge is related to a fake Mexican ID found in his wallet during the search, according to the criminal complaint.
Police also reported finding child pornography on his phone, along with selfies, pictures of a penis and pictures of clothed children.
Velazquez waived his right to remain silent and freely answered questions, Sgt. Tony Ruesga reported.
“In speaking to Velazquez he admitted having videos and photographs that showed children having sexual intercourse on his cellphone,” Ruesga wrote in a report, adding that Velazquez said he received the videos and photographs on Facebook from a Facebook friend he had never met and Velazquez admitted to saving them to view.
“Velazquez told me he did not think he was doing anything wrong, but that child pornography was bad. I specifically asked Velazquez if he was sexually attracted to children and he told me he was not. Velazquez told me he was attracted to women and explained he was married and has two children,” Ruesga reported.
According to the report, Velazquez told Ruesga his family lives in Mexico and he has been in the U.S. about five years.
The search warrant was obtained after police worked with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Chidden Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate a cyber tip of child porn.
Velazquez is back in court for an arraignment Feb. 27.
