DARLINGTON - A Darlington man was charged with felony battery and other crimes Wednesday for allegedly punching a man he knows July 5 and trying to evade arrest.
Nathan S. Reichling, 33, also faces misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer, second-offense operating while intoxicated and second-offense operating with a prohibited alcohol content.
According to police documents, Reichling was highly intoxicated, went to the man's residence in the 14000 block of County G in Darlington and demanded money.
Reichling reportedly punched the man in the face, breaking his nose and splitting his lip, which required 11 stitches. Police noted in their report that the man had a black eye with significant swelling, a bloody nose and cuts to the nose and eyebrow.
Reichling had driven off when officers arrived but they found him a short time later. He reportedly got out of his car and ran into the woods. Police caught up to Reichling and tased him after he didn't follow their instructions to kneel on the ground with his hands up.
He was transported to the hospital for a blood draw and taken to jail. His blood-alcohol concentration was 0.22 percent.
Court records indicate that Reichling signed a $10,000 signature bond Wednesday that orders him not to drink, go into bars or liquor stores, possess or consume nonprescription controlled substances or contact the man, his wife, or their residence. He also must submit to blood and breath testing for alcohol.
Reichling has an adjourned initial appearance July 20.
