MONROE - Monroe Arts Center presents the hauntingly beautiful combined sounds of the marimba, cello and flute as performed by The Damen Trio at 2 p.m. Sunday.
This is the third of five performances scheduled as part of the Sunday Concert Series. This trio brings a repertoire and program of music ranging from classical to contemporary jazz works. The concert takes place at MAC's Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall, 1315 11th St.
Marimbist, percussionist and Monroe resident Matthew Peters has performed throughout the United States and in Paris, Prague and Mexico City. Peters has the ability to transition comfortably through musical genres including classical, jazz, rock, ragtime and world music, as well as musical theater and the American Songbook. He has performed with New Millennium Orchestra, Madison Opera Inc., Madison Repertory Theater, EmergOrchestra and the Marimba Jazz Trio.
Peters and members of The Damen Trio met while performing in Chicago's Palomar Ensemble. The trio was formed as a vehicle for the members to continue playing together after Peters left Chicago in 2010.
Trevor Watkin (flute) is a professional musician living, teaching, composing and performing in Chicago. He has been teaching flute for more than17 years. In addition to maintaining an active performance and teaching schedule, he has proven success in working with composers and lyricists. He has been the resident composer and music director with the Right Brain Project since 2010 and is a past Joseph Jefferson Award recipient for his contribution to Dream Theatre's 2009 production, "The Black Duckling."
Alyson Berger (cello) is an active freelance performer and recitalist in the Chicago area. A native of New York, she began studying cello at age seven and made her orchestral debut at age 16 with New York's Orchestra de Camera. After teaching and performing in New York, she relocated to Chicago and has performed with the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Elgin Symphony and the Northwest Indiana Symphony, and has performed as guest soloist with the Ravenswood Community Orchestra. Alyson has been a faculty member at VanderCook College of music in Chicago and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan and currently has a large studio of students in Evanston, Illinois.
