MONROE - People gathered around the parade route early Saturday afternoon in Monroe to catch a glimpse of the fire trucks, floats and, of course, the diary queens.
All of the local dairy queens had friends in the crowd to call their names and wish them good luck.
Green County Dairy Days is a time to celebrate Green County agriculture.
People from across the county came to see the new dairy queen and princess crowned in front of the Monroe Arts Center.
Morgan Behnke, New Glarus, was crowned the 2009-10 Green County Dairy Queen.
"I'm in shock right now," she said, her voice filled with emotion.
Behnke thanked her family for their support and had a special message for the other diary queens.
"I love you guys already," she said.
Tamiya Sandlin, Albany, was crowned the Green County Dairy Princess.
"This is a great opportunity," she said. "I can't wait to be with you guys all year."
The queen and princess, along with the community dairy queens, will attend county-wide events throughout the year, including the Green County Fair in July and Green county Breakfast on the Farm next year. They will also attend parades throughout the county.
Their main job is to represent the county and the dairy industry.
Along the parade route, children smiled and pointed to the fire trucks or the floats. They received lots of candy as the parade made is way through Monroe's downtown to the arts center.
