Cyclist struck by car

MONROE - A 43-year-old Madison man Saturday was transported by helicopter to a Madison hospital for injuries sustained after he was struck by a car while bicycling on a county road in New Glarus Township.

Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, emergency personnel and Green County deputies were dispatched to the intersection of CTH O and Old Madison road in New Glarus Township for a report of a vehicle/bicycle crash. Police arrived on the scene to find that a vehicle driven by Zachary W. Jensen, 21, of rural New Glarus, was southbound on Old Madison Road, when he failed to yield to a bicycle being ridden on CTH O by Timothy J. Devries, 43, of Madison.

Jensen was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt, authorities said. His vehicle sustained moderate front end damage.

Devries was transported from the scene by Med-Flight helicopter to UW Hospital for treatment. Devries was wearing a helmet. Jensen was cited for failure to yield to a bicycle and inattentive driving and released.

Devries' condition was unavailable Sunday night.

New Glarus Fire, Police, and EMS also responded to the crash.
