Cross Plains trustee joins 27th District race

MONROE - A Cross Plains business owner and village trustee announced Monday he will be joining the race to challenge for the 27th District state Senate election in November against incumbent Jon Erpenbach, D-Waunakee.

Kurt Schlict, owner of Kurt's on Main, Cross Plains, will be running as a Republican against the 12-year incumbent Erpenbach, according to a press release Schlict issued Monday.

Schlict is also the District 28 representative on the Dane County Board. In addition to the his role on the board, Schlict is assigned to the county's Public Protection and Judiciary Committee, is a member of the Cross Plains/Berry Fire District, EMS Commission and the Crystal/Fish/Mud Lake District, Schlict said, in his press release. He is also is a member of the Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce and the Wisconsin Tavern League, the release said.

Schlict is married and has two children.

There are two other candidates who have announced bids to replace Erpenbach, Tony Wickersham, Evansville, who is running as a Republican, and Jonathan Haus, a Libertarian candidate from Madison.

The primary election for all state offices will be Sept. 14, and the general election takes place Nov. 2.

The 27th state Senate district contains portions of Dane County, including Waunakee, Middleton, Cross Plains, Black Earth, Mount Horeb, Blue Mounds, Mazomanie, Belleville, Verona, portions of the City of Madison, Fitchburg, Oregon, all of Green County, the township of Wayne in Lafayette County, and the portions of Rock County, including Evansville and the township of Magnolia.
