MONROE — A cow had to be put down after it fell through the floor of the trailer it was being hauled in and drug along the ground.
Police were called at 12:13 p.m. March 29 to the 800 block of 20th avenue. A driver of a separate vehicle noticed the cow had fallen through the floor of the trailer and was being drug down the street, and was able to alert the driver of the trailer to stop, according to Fred Kelley, Monroe’s Chief of Police.
Police arrived on scene at 12:15 p.m. and made a call to Monroe Veterinary Service to assist. The cow was euthanized, and Monroe Fire arrived at 12:55 p.m. to “clean up the scene” of blood, Kelley said.
“Mondays are Equity Day, so you see a lot of trailers driving,” Kelley said, referencing Equity Co-Op Livestock Sales on Wis. 69 south of Monroe. Still, Kelley said, “it was an odd place for a trailer.”
