DARLINGTON - A week after the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department and the Stateline Area Narcotics Task Force arrested Eric D. Switzky, 36, and Kristen D. Switzky, 33, for running a marijuana-based operation in their home, the two appeared in Lafayette County Circuit Court to schedule preliminary hearings.

Each of the Switzkys were charged with a Class E felony count of making and dealing THC in an amount greater than 10,000 grams, roughly 22 pounds, a Class E felony count of possessing more than 10,000 grams of THC with the intent to sell it, and three Class A misdemeanor counts of neglecting a child.

SLANT officers, Belmont Police and Lafayette County deputies seized more than 75 marijuana plants and 20 pounds of leaf clippings from their home in the 8800 block of Lake Road in Fayette Township on the morning of Oct. 18.

Both made initial appearances on Monday, during which they signed cash bonds of $1,500 each. Circuit Court Justice Duane Jorgenson specified as conditions of their bonds they cannot leave the state, possess or consume any nonprescription drugs, controlled substances or use any prescription drugs not prescribed to them. He added that the children were not to have contact with the home until it was deemed safe.

On Friday, the Switzkys appeared with their individual lawyers before Jorgenson. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 29. The court was given updated information regarding the conditions at the home and agreed to allow the children to return.

Eric and Kristen Switzky each have a maximum possible sentence of up to 32 years and three months in prison and face fines up to $130,000.
