MONROE - Green County will spend more than $350,000 to update the highway department's fleet with two new trucks.

The county board Tuesday approved purchasing two 2017 International trucks from Lakeside International Trucks for a total of $182,000. Each will have a winter equipment package from Monroe Truck Equipment for an additional total cost of $173,000.

The new trucks will replace older vehicles in the fleet. Jeff Wunschel, highway commissioner, said the department maintains 22 to 23 trucks. After 12 to 15 years of use, vehicles are sold and replacements purchased.

The trucks will be purchased now so they can be in place by fall.
