MONROE - The Green County Farm Bureau is promoting Wisconsin Farm Bureau's Ag in the Classroom essay contest for all fourth- and fifth-grade students in the county.
Participating schools need to submit essays by Sunday, April 1 to Carmen Montgomery, FFA Advisor, C/O Essay Contest, 1600 26th St., Monroe.
The essay is titled "Why crops and plants are important to Wisconsin Agriculture."
Essays must be between 100 to 300 words in length and are judged on content, grammar, spelling, and neatness. All essays submitted should have the following information written on the back of the essay: name, grade level, parent's name, teacher's name, school name, address and phone number.
Three Green County winners will be selected and will receive two free passes to the Green County Breakfast on the Farm where they will read their essays and be presented with an award for their achievement. They will also receive a copy of "Seed Soil Sun," the 2012 Wisconsin Farm Bureau Book of the year by Cris Peterson. The first place winner's essay will be submitted to compete in the state contest.
The Green County Farm Bureau is offering an additional incentive to encourage teachers to get their class to participate. All teachers who have their entire class submit an essay will have their name put in a drawing for the chance to win a $100 to purchase classroom supplies. In addition, each school district will be given a copy of Seed Soil Sun by Cris Peterson for students to read.
