County committee recommends referendum

MONROE - The Green County Finance and Accounting Committee Friday voted unanimously to recommend a referendum to help bridge a funding gap for the Pleasant View Nursing Home.

The referendum would allow the county to borrow up to $890,000 for each of the next five years to pay for nursing home expenses.

The committee's recommendation will go before the Green County Board of Supervisors for final approval at a special meeting Aug. 25. If the board passes the resolution, county residents would vote on the referendum Oct. 6.

The committee discussed how much money would be needed per year to help pay for county's nursing home. Committee members said they didn't want to ask for more money than they thought the county would need.
