MONROE - A special program Oct. 4 will honor Vietnam-era veterans, including special recognition of seven servicemen who were killed during the war.
The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Monroe High School. It will include presentations by Pete Finnegan, an army photographer during the Vietnam era; author Steve Saunders; Vietnam veteran Junior Robertson of Monroe; Clayton Ruegsegger of Green County Veterans Services; and a family member tribute by Kay Krebs of Monroe.
The Monroe Common Council meeting Tuesday will include a special proclamation designating October as Vietnam Veterans month. Jose Picard, 10, of Brodhead will sing the National Anthem and Tammy Derrickson, director of the Behring Senior Center and organizer of the Oct. 4 event, will show a video honoring the seven servicemen killed. The MIA/POW flags will fly over City Hall and the senior center.
Local veterans are invited to attend the council meeting. It starts at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.
