MONROE — Two were injured and an Evansville man was charged with his first OWI offense following a single-car rollover crash Saturday night near the intersection of County C and Brooklyn-Albany Road in the Town of Brooklyn.

According to police reports, Spencer R. Franklin, 23 of Evansville was driving eastbound on County C when he failed to negotiate a curve near the intersection.

“His truck exited the roadway, entered the eastbound ditch and began to roll,” said a police report.

The truck rolled approximately 4-5 times and “went airborne,” coming to rest in a cornfield.

Spencer was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was injured.

Spencer was transported by EMS for his injuries. The only passenger, Kaitlin M. Carpenter, 24 of Monroe, reported wearing her seatbelt and suffered what officials characterized as “non-life threatening” injuries; and was also transported by EMS. The truck had disabling damage, with no airbag deployment.

The driver was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence of Alcohol, 1st Offense. And driving too fast for conditions.  Spencer was released to a responsible party and his truck towed.
