DARLINGTON - City of Darlington police are reminding residents and visitors that winter street parking restrictions are now in effect.
The city's alternate-side parking ordinance requires those who park on the street to alternate from one side to the other every morning.
Vehicles must be parked on the odd-numbered side of the streets on odd dates and on the even-numbered side of the streets on even dates. The ordinance will be enforced daily between midnight and 6 a.m.
There is a $10 fine for a first-offense alternate-side parking violation. Second and subsequent offenses result a $20 fine for each violation.
Officers will be issuing warnings until the first snow so residents can get back into the alternate parking routine. After that, the ordinance will be strictly enforced, regardless of existing weather conditions - even on nice days, the street crews may be working to widen streets or doing other snow removal.
The police department is encouraging residents who have off-street parking to use it in order to make way for snow-removal equipment.

Calendar parking begins Nov. 15 in the City of Monroe and is enforced daily midnight to 7 a.m.
