Winona "Winnie" M. Haffele, age 80 of Monroe, formerly of Browntown, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at her home. She was born on October 30, 1928, the daughter of George and Frances (Engebretson) Erickson. Winona and Robert Haffele were married on September 17, 1949 at West Wiota Lutheran Church. She farmed with her husband Robert till 1965 and then with her children in Cadiz Township until 1979; she also worked at the Monroe Clinic for 37 years. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and the Church Ladies Guild.
Survivors include sons: Bill (Vicki) Haffele, Browntown, Dick (Jo Lynn) Haffele, Verona, Gene (Sandy) Haffele, Orangeville, IL, David (Lana) Haffele, Monroe; daughter, Deb (Ron) Marty, Lena, IL; brother, Arlie (Shirley) Erickson, Monroe; sister, Lavona Quinn, McFarland; 10 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert in 1965; brother-in-law, Francis Quinn; and special friend, Frank Hanson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January, 12, 2009 at Peace United Church of Christ in Browntown with Pastor Ray Sowersby and Pastor Eric Erickson officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, South Wayne.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe.
