William "Bill" H. Hale, age 78, of Monroe, died on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on February 23, 1936 in South Wayne, WI; the son of William and Lucille (Ethridge) Hale. William and Frieda M. Westenhofer were married on October 8, 1955 in Germany.

He served in Germany during the Korean War.

William was a warehouse supervisor for Nash Finch Company for 38 years; 24 years in Brainerd, MN and 14 years in Liberal, KS. After moving to Monroe he worked for Swiss Colony. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #754, Cecil Jones VFW Post 2312, and the American Legion. He enjoyed horseshoes, playing cards, fishing, hunting and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Frieda of 59 years, of Monroe, children: Rosie (Mark) Prince of Baxter, MN; Patty (Joe) Thompson of Nine Mile Falls, WA; Sheila Hale-Henson of Monroe; J.R. (Susan) Hale of ND; brothers, Richard (Nancy) Hale of Brodhead, Jack (Mary) Hale of Deerwood, MN; sisters, Nathalie (John) Ruf of Darlington, Wilma (Armin) Wand of Argyle; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, son, Jackie Eugene Hale, sisters, Ada Helgeson, Naomi Jensen, Eva Meier, and brother, Roy Rood; and 7 half-brothers and half-sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave., in Monroe with Rev. Tiff Bates officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
