Werner E. Zimmerman, Jr., age 71 of Monroe, died on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the University Hospital in Madison. He was born on November 2, 1937, the son of Werner and Viola (Zweifel) Zimmerman, Sr. He attended the Watson Elementary School and was a 1955 graduate of South Wayne High School.
Werner and Marlene Hammer were married on September 1, 1956 at Peace United Church of Christ, Browntown. Werner was a Cheesemaker at Wood Andrews Cheese Factory in South Wayne; Green Co. Co-op, Monroe; worked for Dederich Corp; and on January 1, 1979 formed Zimmerman Cheese Factory in Wiota, WI. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Southwest Cheesemakers Assn; served as president for Foreign Type Cheesemakers Assn, WI Cheesemakers Assn, and U.S. Cheesemakers Assn. Werner loved his grandchildren. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, traveling and cheering on the Packers. He was a master story teller and always had a funny joke or story to share with his friends and family.
He is survived by his children: Brian (Cindy) Zimmerman of Monroe; Linda (Mike) Moe of Judith Gap, MT; Vicky Witke of Gurnee, IL; mother, Viola Zimmerman of Monroe; brother, Dr. Roger (Jan) Zimmerman of Madison; grandchildren, Katie (Chris Gobeli) Moe, Jessica (Joe) Landmark; Paul Witke, Caitlin Witke and Brianna Zimmerman; nephew and niece, Craig (Lori) Zimmerman and Janelle (Trent) Heinrich and special friend Kris Olson. He is predeceased by his father, Werner Sr..
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe. Officiating will be Rev. Gretchen Sylvester. Burial will be at a later date. A visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 6:p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established in Werner's memory.
Werner will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
