Wanda L. Rood, age 91 of South Wayne, died on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Monroe Manor. She was born on April 16, 1918, the daughter of Minick and Aurora (Jensen) Rood. Wanda was a graduate of the Argyle High School, Green County Normal School and earned her masters degree in teaching from the University of Wisconsin. She taught school for many years, in locations such as rural Lafayette County, Brooklyn, McFarland and Shorewood, Wisconsin. After her retirement, Wanda returned to South Wayne, and has spent the last 20 years in the community. Wanda was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in South Wayne, Women of the E.L.C.A., South Wayne Women's Club, University of Wisconsin Alumni, University of Wisconsin-Madison Foundation, National Education Association and the Wisconsin Education Association
She is survived by her brother, Robert Rood of South Wayne; her sister, Valborg Erdahl of Sun Prairie; 6 nieces and 3 nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews, along with many friends. She is predeceased by her parents; sisters, Helen Minerva Rood, Agnes Destrampe; brothers, Royal, John and Paul Rood.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in South Wayne. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis Perger, with burial in the East Wiota Lutheran Cemetery in Gratiot Township, Lafayette County. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or to the East Wiota Lutheran Cemetery Association.
