Walter H. Regez, age 87 of Monroe, died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on October 18, 1921 in Monroe the son of Herman and Marie (Elmer) Regez. He was a graduate of Monroe High School and the Louisville Kentucky Military School. Walter and Violet B. Elmer were married on June 9, 1946 at St. John's United Church of Christ. He entered the U.S. Army on September 25, 1942 and discharged on September 15, 1945, serving with the 110 Infantry, receiving the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, 3 overseas service bars, a Purple Heart Medal and earning a Bronze Star.
Walter was the owner and operator of the Regez Cheese and Paper Company for many years. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Cecil Jones V.F.W. Post No. 2312, Zilmer Riley American Legion Post No. 84, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 754, and the Monroe Country Club. Walter was a volunteer for the Monroe Clinic Hospital and enjoyed helping the Senior Center deliver meals on wheels. He was also a die hard St. Louis Cardinals fan all of his life.
Walter is survived by his wife, Violet and daughter, Mary, both of Monroe, also several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; son, David; sisters, Dorothy Stauffacher and Katherine Wegner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. William T. Mike Heath, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in Walter's memory.
