Virginia R. Matzke age 90 of Monroe, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015. Virginia was born November 1, 1924 in New Glarus, the daughter of Chester and Hulda (Duerst) Stuessy. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1942 and married Harold L. Matzke on February 10, 1944 at the Immanuel Evangelical Church in Monroe. Virginia farmed with her husband on the Matzke home farm until 1970 and then worked part-time at Equity Livestock Sales. She was a member of the Monroe Moose Lodge and Clarno Homemakers. She enjoyed wintering with her husband in Ocala, FL for ten years and spending summer weekends at their home on Lake Wisconsin.

She is survived by a daughter, Bethany (Paul) Fahr of Winslow, IL; a son, Dennis (Kim) Matzke of Monroe; four grandchildren, Marcelle (Nathan) Schwartz of Sycamore, IL, Andrew (Sherry) Fahr of Earlville, IL, Elizabeth Matzke of Fitchburg, WI, and Caleb (Sara) Matzke of Monroe; two great grandsons, Logan Fahr and Samuel Schwartz; and a niece, Sue (Jim) Dahmen of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in Sept. 1994; a brother, Elwin Stuessy; and a nephew, Gaylen Keegan.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 1:00 p.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31st. Ave., Monroe, with Rev. David Busker officiating. Interment will be in West Clarno Pioneer Cemetery, Clarno Township, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested in Virginia's name to the West Clarno Cemetery.
