BRODHEAD - Virginia E. Friedly, age 76, of Brodhead, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family, after fighting pancreatic cancer for 3 months. She was born on March 26, 1938 in Spring Grove Township, Green County, WI, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Boeck) Trickel. On July 16, 1955, she married the love of her life, Walter J. Friedly. They recently celebrated 59 years together.
Virginia attended Hoosier Grove Grade School and Brodhead High School. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching the Badgers, Brewers and Packers, growing flowers, bird watching, going camping, hosting family reunions and her dog Coco. She will truly be remembered by being thoughtful of others, their extravagant Christmas lights display, and 37 years of cake decorating. She devoted many years to being a 4-H leader, Green County Fair Rabbit Superintendent, hosting 4-H meetings in her home, and helping the youth. She was a homemaker for many years and worked for a short time at McDonalds.
She is survived by her husband Walter; sons, Steve Friedly, Loredo, TX, Stan (Nancy) Friedly, Juda, WI; a daughter, Sherry (Terry) Gough, Brodhead; six grandchildren, Nathan Friedly, Jason (Sara) Gough, Monroe, WI, Julie (Brian) Gough, Lake Mills, WI, Jackie Gough, Freeport, IL, Malissabeth (Matthew) Friedly, Salt Lake City, UT, Almanzo Friedly, Juda, WI; two great-granddaughters, Graci and Kayli Gough; step-father Gerald Johnson, Brodhead, WI, and a sister, Irene Mellenberger, Browntown, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Rena Flynn, a brother-in-law, Eugene Mellenberger, and a nephew, Scottie Stoll.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
