Virgil G. Monte

OREGON - Virgil G. Monte, age 80, died Thursday, November 26, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 28, 1928 in Browntown; the son of Gustave and Emma (Zillmer) Monte. He married Elaine Field on October 8, 1976. Virgil farmed a few years in the Browntown and Monroe area, he then went to work for Dorman Cheese for many years. In 1978 Virgil and Elaine moved to Cassville where they owned and operated Virg's Tap until 1989. Virgil formerly belonged to the Eagles Club of Monroe, the Lyons Club of Cassville and the Oregon Senior Center. He worked as a crossing guard in Oregon for several years.

He is survived by his wife Elaine, of Oregon; 2 sons: Wayne Monte of Albany and Robert Monte of Milton; 2 step-daughters: Dawn (Ken) Bausch of Oregon and Lisa (Rick O'Nan) Field of Sauk City; 4 Grandchildren: Becky, Tonya, James and Jennifer; 2 step-grandchildren: Kira and Kaci; 5 great grandchildren; 4 Sisters: Bernice Leck of Monroe, Irma Mayer of Monroe, Retha Dix of Marshfield and Ardell (Don) Sellnow of Monroe; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Viola Buholzer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at Everson Funeral Home, Brodhead; with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brodhead at a later date. A visitation will be held Saturday at the Funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
