BRODHEAD - Velda F. Smith, age 72, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Harbor House in Monroe, WI. She was born on April 5, 1938 in Lincoln, NE, the daughter of Homer and Mabel (Gross) Wahl. She married Bernard R. Smith on June 26, 1957 in Brodhead. He passed away on October 9, 2010.
Velda, also known as Pee Wee, worked for the Bank of Brodhead for over 31 years and retired in 1999. Her last appointment was Customer Service Officer. She loved the outdoors, traveling, and being with family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Tim (Kathy) Smith, Brodhead, Todd (Judy) Smith, Appleton, WI, a brother, Donald (Brenda) Wahl, Brodhead, two sisters, Juna (Richard) Nimz, Evansville, WI, Sandra (Roger) Lewis, Janesville, WI, two sisters-in-law, Marie Wahl, Rockford, IL, Carol Ann (John) Paulson, Suring, WI, four grandchildren, Emily, Lindsey, Heidi, and Sarah, and a great-grandson, Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, Merlin, Jerry, James, and Wayne Wahl, three sisters, Lois Kopke, Verla Frie, and Twila Keller.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, with Pastor Steve Groves officiating.
