MONROE - A truck driver from out of state was arrested early Tuesday morning at a Monroe motel on charges of disorderly conduct and mistreatment of an animal.

Curtis R. Kellogg, 45, of Northport, Mich., was banging on doors at a motel in the 500 block of 6th Street, swearing loudly and punching a dog that was traveling with him and a fellow truck driver, according to police chief Fred Kelley. Motel staff called police at 12:24 a.m. to complain, Kelley said, and officers booked Kellogg into jail at 2:05 a.m.

Kellogg's coworker was not charged. They work for KLLM Transport Services, Kelley said, and since the two had been drinking, the company sent out a representative to remove their trucks from the motel parking lot.

Kellogg has a pre-trial conference scheduled for Jan. 17.
