Green County Sheriff

MONROE - Robert Dean Saalsaa, 43, Argyle, was uninjured in a deer vs. truck collision on Hefty Road in the Town of Washington at 3:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7. The truck sustained moderate front-end damage and was driven from the scene.

• Dennis D. Schliem, 53, Monroe, was uninjured in a deer vs. truck collision on County MM north of Wisconsin 11 in the Town of Cadiz at 3:46 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7. The truck sustained moderate front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

• Gregory H. Neiers, 61, Browntown, reported no injuries from a deer vs. vehicle crash in the W8000 block of County Y in the Town of Jordan at 4:53 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4. The collision caused minor damage to the vehicle and killed the deer. The vehicle was driven from the scene.

• Alden P. Austin, Jr., 59, Monroe, and his passenger were uninjured in a deer vs. truck collision on Wisconsin 11 at Ullom Road in the Town of Cadiz at 6:34 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4. Austin's truck sustained moderate front-end damage and was driven from the scene.

• Geoffrey W. Larson, 41, Belleville, and his passengers were uninjured in a deer vs. vehicle collision on Kubly Road west of Argue Road in the Town of New Glarus at 7:26 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4. The vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage and was driven from the scene.

• Moderate vehicle damage and no injuries were reported in a crash in the 400 block of 14th Avenue in New Glarus at 7:21 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. Michael D. Hisel, 54, New Glarus, was eastbound when he hit a parked vehicle owned by Tracy R. Wing, 48, Monticello. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

• Kristi R. Helland, 37, Juda, was uninjured in a rollover accident on Wis. 59 south of Oliver Road in the Town of Albany at 7:37 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. She was eastbound when she lost control of her vehicle while negotiating a curve. The vehicle went off the east side of the road, then came back onto the road and skidded across to the opposite side. It went off the west side of the road and overturned. The vehicle was severely damaged and towed.

• Ruth A. Kohn, Monroe, 63, was westbound in the W5200 block of Wis. 11 in the Town of Monroe at 5:32 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, when three deer collided with her vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were uninjured. The vehicle was moderately damaged and driven from the scene.

• Noah K. Thomson, 17, Browntown, was uninjured in a deer vs. vehicle collision in the W9200 block of County B east of West River Road in the Town of Cadiz at 8:19 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. The vehicle was moderately damaged and driven from the scene.

• No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle crash in the N4000 block of Golf Course Road in the Town of Decatur at 1:56 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6. Denise S. Dye, 53, Monroe, was turning into the Decatur Country Club when she failed to yield right-of-way to a southbound vehicle driven by Casey J. Gunser, 24, Argyle. Dye's vehicle sustained minor damage. Gunser's vehicle sustained moderate damage. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.



Monroe Police

MONROE - No injuries were reported in a one-vehicle crash involving a Green County Sheriff's Department squad car at 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, just south of Buckskin Road on County J. Deputy Danielle M. Jackson, 36, Monroe, slid on ice and hit a snow bank, causing moderate damage to the squad.



Rock County Sheriff

JANESVILLE - Steven Geiger, 60, and his passengers Leon P. Geiger, 84, Michael J. Geiger, 22, and Gary A. Becker, 53, all of Monroe, were uninjured in a three-vehicle crash on Wisconsin 81 west of South Merlet Road in the Town of Newark at about 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. Diana M. Grenawalt, 29, Beloit, was eastbound and slowing to turn a 2003 Chevy Tahoe into a driveway when she was rearended by an eastbound 2002 Ford Focus driven by Dezeray M. Eslinger, 27, Beloit. Grenawalt's vehicle slid off the road into the south ditch. Eslinger's vehicle slid into the westbound lane of traffic and was struck by a 2012 Lincoln MKS driven by Geiger. Eslinger's vehicle hit a mailbox and came to a rest in the north ditch. Geiger's vehicle remained in the road, blocking traffic. Eslinger was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville, where she was listed in stable but serious condition with a head injury. She was cited for non-registration of her vehicle and driving too fast for conditions and without vehicle insurance. Grenawalt and her 4-year-old son were uninjured. Wis. 81 was closed for more than three hours while troopers with the Wisconsin State Patrol reconstructed the crash, which remains under investigation. Speed and slippery road conditions were contributing factors in the crash.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - Harold E. Elzen, 68, Darlington, reported at 5:54 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, that he hit a deer on Wisconsin 23 in the Town of Darlington.

• No injuries were reported from a one-vehicle accident on Wisconsin 78 in the Town of Wiota at 2:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4. Octavio M. Herrera, 30, Galena, Ill., was southbound when he failed to negotiate a curve due to the slippery road conditions. He lost control of his 1998 Chevrolet, which slid off the road and rolled onto its roof in the ditch, coming to rest against a power pole. The car was extensively damaged and towed.

• Joanne M. Rucker, 46, Monroe, reported at 5:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, that she hit a deer on Wis. 11 in the Town of Wayne. She was uninjured. Her vehicle was moderately damaged.

• John J. Crosby, 27, Mineral Point, reported no injuries at 12:11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, after he hit a deer on County C in the Town of Willow Springs. His vehicle was moderately damaged.

• Sherry L. Schwoob, 41, Warren, Ill., reported no injuries at 4:05 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, after she hit a deer on Wis. 23 in the Town of Darlington. The Darlington Police Department assisted with the case.

• A peacock wandering along the side of the road and at times into the road was reported on Wis. 11 in the Town of Wayne at 10:48 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5. The bird had apparently escaped from a nearby farm.



New Glarus Police

NEW GLARUS - No injuries were reported in a two-vehicle crash at the Bank of New Glarus, 1101 Wisconsin 69, at 3:44 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4. A pickup truck driven by Elwood J. Anderson, 78, New Glarus, backed into the front of a sedan behind him at the drive-up window. The sedan, driven by Andrew R. Marty, 31, New Glarus, sustained very minor damage to the bumper.
