AVON - Three horses owned by a Brodhead man died as a result of a traffic crash Tuesday, according to a statement from the Rock County Sheriff's Department.
At 6:47 p.m., members of the Rock County Sheriff's Office and Brodhead Fire/EMS responded to a motor vehicle crash involving three horses on Wisconsin 81 less than one mile west of South Avon Store Road in the Town of Avon.
Law Enforcement and EMS arrived on scene at 6:56 p.m. and found a 1997 Oldsmobile Bravado driven by 48-year-old Roger C. Stromquist, Loves Park, Ill., in the eastbound lane of Wis. 81.
An investigation of the traffic crash showed the Bravado was eastbound as three horses owned by Guy A. Peterson of Brodhead were standing in the roadway and were hit by Stromquist's vehicle. As a result of the accident two of the three horses died at the scene, while a third had to be euthanized by a local veterinarian.
Stromquist was transported to a Beloit hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.
Speed and alcohol were not suspected as contributing factors, and at the time of the press release there were no charges or citations were issued.
