Thomas R. Smith age 80 of Monroe, died Saturday, February 28, in Foley, Alabama. Tom was born April 28, 1934, the son of Rennie "Jack" Smith and Louise (Devlin) Smith. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1952 and entered the U.S. Army, serving overseas in Germany. He married Rena Thorp on November 29, 1959 at the Monroe United Methodist Church. In 1960, Tom established Arrow Sales, Inc. of Monroe which he operated for 36 years until retiring in 1996. Tom served on the Green County Board for 33 years and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2312, Monroe United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #84, Monroe Masonic Smith Lodge #31, Zor Shrine Temple, Green County Shrine Club, and the Elks Club of Foley, AL. Tom enjoyed wintering in the South, working in his yard, golf, NASCAR, and antique car shows.

He is survived by his wife, Rena Smith of Monroe; a son, Todd (Trish) Smith of Monroe; daughters, Tracy (Craig) Signer of Monroe, and Tina (Ken) Mesecher of Texas; grandchildren, Jocelyn Smith (Peter Nielsen), Aaron Smith, Samantha (Nathan) Smith, Nicholas Signer, Trevor Signer, Hallie Signer, Brian Mesecher, Garrett Mesecher, Andrew Mesecher, and Grant Mesecher. He was preceded in death by his father on May 18, 1965, and his mother on February 4, 1997.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 11:00 A.M., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post #84. Military graveside services will be in Saucerman Cemetery, Cadiz Township. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Tom's name.
