Mrs. Sylvia Sonnenburg, age 86, of Belleville, WI passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at The St. Mary's Care Center, Madison. Sylvia was born August 13, 1921 in Monroe, WI. The daughter of Casper and Eliza (Wenger) Schild, she graduated from Monroe High School. On May 6, 1942 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Sonnenburg in Missouri. The couple farmed in the Monroe area for nine years and then in 1954 moved to Exeter Township south of Belleville where they farmed until 1980 when they moved to Belleville. Sylvia loved to play euchre and was a member of the Thursday Afternoon Homemakers, was an avid Cubs and Packer fan, loved gardening and flowers. She especially enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bowling was a passion with Sylvia along with bird watching.

Survivors include: a son, Thomas (Amy) Sonnenburg of Belleville, WI; three daughters, Jean Alme of Fountain Hills, AZ, Mary (Rick) Fahey of Verona, WI, and Cathy Sonnenburg of Belleville, WI; 10 grandchildren: Jennifer Kent, Julie Ohnsorg, James Alme, Jonathan Alme, Kurt Fahey, Tara Fahey, Tonya Fahey, Ryan Sonnenburg, Adam Sonnenburg and Leaha Sonnenburg; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Busjahn of Lena, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; grandson, Jeffrey Alme; her son-in-law, Jack Alme; and a brother, Walter Schild.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday evening, March 7, 2008 at the First United Church of Christ, 130 East Church St., Belleville, WI. The Rev. Heide Walker Hackman officiating with burial in the Belleville Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday at the First United Church of Christ, 130 East Church St., Belleville, WI. A memorial fund has been established in her memory.
