BRODHEAD - Susan F. Knight, age 54, died peacefully on March 25, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 3, 1954 in Janesville; daughter of Melvin and Mildred (Kundert) Wendler. She graduated from Brodhead High School in 1972 and went on to study at Blackhawk Technical College as a Medical Technician. She married the love of her life, Bill Knight, on July 24, 1976 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Brodhead.

Sue and Bill loved aviation and spent their honeymoon at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) convention in Oshkosh, returning every year thereafter to celebrate their anniversary. She was a licensed pilot and loved flying their yellow and blue Taylorcraft. She also served as secretary of the Brodhead EAA chapter for many years. She and her husband enjoyed building and restoring antique airplanes and flying all around the United States to see their friends. They were very active for many years with the activities of the Brodhead airport, having hosted the annual Grassroots Fly In for antique airplanes from 1979-1990.

For most of her married life, Sue was a stay at home wife and mother. Her family and friends always came first. She was a lifelong resident of Brodhead, but also enjoyed traveling with her family. She loved seeing new sights and meeting new people. From the oldest of friends to the newest of acquaintances she always went the extra mile to make them feel special. She was especially fond of children. With her generous heart, she always put others first, asking little for herself. She was a beautiful woman, in every respect. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband Bill of Brodhead; a daughter, Sarah of Boise ID; a son, Eric of Brodhead; siblings: Marge (Jim) Jacobson of Whitewater, Carolyn (Forrest) Hayes of Mosinee, Sam Wendler of Chicago, Mary (Larry) Whitehead of Juda, Mike Wendler of Monroe and Nancy Rivet of Henniker, NH; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Brodhead, with Fr. Michael Moon officiating. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Congregational Church. Memorials may be given in Sue's name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Everson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
