ROCK GROVE, Ill. - Stanley Byron Altenbernd, 95, a lifetime resident of Rock Grove, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Woods Crossing at Woods point in Brodhead, Wisconsin.

Born December 10, 1919 In Rock City he was the son of Frederick and Kathryn (Maurer) Altenbernd. He married Lorraine Gobeli on April 9, 1940. She preceded him in death on November 5, 1995.

Stanley attended Dakota School District.

He and his wife bought acreage north of Rock Grove and began dairy farming as their livelihood. In later years, they expanded their acreage and moved to Rock Grove to care for his father. After retiring from farming, Stanley worked for Rockford Blacktop and Charles Joseph Company a Division of Rockford Blacktop.

Stanley enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, playing Euchre, and traveling.

His love of people and socializing brought many lifelong friends into his life. He most likely knew everyone with in a large radius. He especially enjoyed family and watching his grandchildren grow into wonderful young adults.

He is survived by his son, Gary ( Lanaya Jones) Altenbernd of Beloit, Wisconsin; his daughter, Patricia (Raymond) Vellinga of Gig Harbor, Washington; son-in-law, Patrick Parrett of Freeport; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, James, Greg (Julie) Altenbernd, Kimberly Parrett, and Kelly Murray; seven great grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, Alexandra, Jake, Hunter, Kaleb, Alejandro, and Nevaeh; one great great grandchild, Abrem.

Stanley is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters and brother; his wife, Lorraine; and daughter, Deborah Parrett; and his daughter in-law, Neva Altenbernd.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Dakota.

Burial will be in the Frankenberger Cemetery.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Indian Grove Country Church in Rock City.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
