BRODHEAD - A sniff search for illegal substances at Brodhead Middle and High Schools turned up nothing illegal Tuesday, Nov. 12, according to a news release from the district.
Participating K-9 teams came from the Monroe, Beloit and Janesville Police Departments and Green and Lafayette County Sheriffs' Departments. The sweep began at 8:30 a.m. and lasted about an hour.
Unannounced sweeps with drug-sniffing dogs are held periodically with the cooperation of the Brodhead Police Department and Green County Sheriff's Department.
"While we understand that seeing multiple police vehicles at the schools can be alarming to parents and the community, the element of surprise is a key factor in the effectiveness of these searches," Jim Matthys, the high school principal, said in the release.
