PERRY TOWNSHIP - Sandra L. (Sandy Spellman) Anderson, age 66, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Don & Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, WI after a valiant 7 year fight with kidney failure, cancer, stroke, heart attack, and seizures. Sandy was born July 16, 1944, daughter of William and Bonnie (Way) Spellman, in Waukesha, WI. The family moved from Waukesha, WI to Mt. Vernon, WI where she attended a one room school. She graduated from Verona High School. Sandy married Reynold "Renny" Anderson on February 21, 1964, in Rockford, IL. Gerry and Marilyn Maurer were best man and maid of honor. She farmed with her husband in Verona before purchasing a farm in Perry Township, rural Mt. Horeb, in 1972. In 2000, they moved a house from the Gerald Maurer Farm, Madison, WI in which they currently reside on their farm.
Sandra was a member of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a Department Manager for Manchester Stores and then worked at Target in her later years. She spent many years caring for elderly both in and out of her home. Sandy was an avid gardener. The fruit of her labor produced many flowers and vegetables. She was an excellent canner and baker. Sandy saw to it that someone; her family, friends, or those in need, benefited from her labors daily.
Sandra was proud of her Hale Family Pioneer Heritage. The family came to the area in 1828. They were the first white women in Lafayette and Iowa Counties. The first white baby born in Iowa County was from the Hale Family. Her mother was a Daughter of the American Revolution. Sandy's great, great grandfather, Eldred Hale, passed through Mt. Vernon when he was ordered by the militia to travel from Ft. Hamilton (Wiota,WI) to Ft. Winnebago (Portage,WI). He traveled with a load of goods to pay the remainder of the purchase for the land of Southern Wisconsin from the Winnebago Nation.
Sandy was extremely proud of her family. She is survived by her loving and attentive husband of 47 years Reynold Anderson; children: Jackie (Tim) Klar, of Juda, Victor (Sandy) Anderson of Hollandale, John Anderson at the home farm, David (Erin) Anderson at the home farm, Theodore (Ted) Anderson of Rewey and, foster son: Mitch (Patti) Urban of Salem, Oregon; her eight grandchildren: Elias, Elliot, and Camilla Klar, Meggan & Jacob Anderson, Charles & Martin Anderson, Kirsten Urban; her siblings: Bill (Jackie) Spellman, Pat Spellman, and Tracy (fiancé: DuWayne) Spellman; her aunts and uncles: Barb Northrup, Velma Lange, and Pete Way and many special friends and neighbors whom she cared for and loved deeply.
