NEW GLARUS - Ronald Lee Foster, age 89, of New Glarus passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on June 11, 1922 in Hudson, Michigan to his parents Earl and Hattie (Sterling) Foster. Ron graduated from New Glarus High School. He then served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1951. On December 21st, 1943 he was united in marriage to Blanche Robb at New Orleans, LA. Ron worked for the New Glarus School District for many years and was very active in the community receiving the Community Civic award in 2008. He was a member of the New Glarus Lion's Club, American Legion, VFW, AMVETS, Edelweiss Chalet Country Club, Arizona Elks, and the Green Valley, AZ Sheriff's Auxiliary Patrol. As a member of these organizations Ron was instrumental in construction of the Park Shelter, the Lion's memorial in the park, the War Memorial at the Veteran's Park, and gave over 1300 hours to the Sheriff's Auxiliary. As a member of the New Glarus Lion's Club Ron received the Melvin Jones Fellowship, was the Committee Chair of the Year, Lion of the year for 1999-2000. Ron enjoyed the game of golf and was a member of the X-Pros League at Edelweiss for many years.

Ron is survived by his wife Blanche, daughter Patricia Jeglum, sons Ronald A. Foster and Greg (Joyce) Foster, nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother William (Sharon) Foster and a sister-in-law Alice Foster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cleo Foster and Jerry Foster, and a granddaughter Brianna Foster.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Swiss United Church of Christ 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Craig Jan-McMahon officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.
