WINSLOW - Roger W. Chapman, age 73, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. He was born on August 27, 1935 in Burlington, IL, to Frank A. and Helen J. (Roberts) Chapman. He married Velma R. Corson on May 5, 1962 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Genoa, IL. She preceded him in death on October 2, 1995. He served our country in the army during the Korean War. He was employed by Duffy Construction in Bensonville, IL for more than 20 years. He also farmed in the Winslow area for many years, he had a passion for raising and training horses. He also raced coon hound dogs. He was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church in Burlington, IL, a member of the Winslow VFW and also the Labor Union Local #362.
He was survived by two sons: Tod M. (Christine) Chapman of Belvidere, IL and Matthew J. Chapman of Winslow, IL; an honorary daughter, Dorothy C. (Carl) White of Winslow, IL; five sisters: Evelyn Campbell of St. Charles, IL, Mildred Johnson of Sycamore, IL, Virginia (Russell) Flores of Elgin, IL, Carol (Casi) Bakey of Carpentersville, IL and Shirley (Michael) Hilleshiem of Hampshire, IL; five brothers: Robert (Joyce) Chapman of Morris, IL, George (Judi) Chapman of Sarasota, FL, Howard (Toni) Chapman of Boscobel, WI, Ennis (Virginia) Chapman and James (Wendy) Chapman, all of Hampshire, IL; three grandchildren: Katelyn, Dustin and McKenzie; two step-grandchildren: Rachel and Lindsay; two great-grandchildren: Bradan and Joryan; three honorary grandchildren: Mitchell R., Jared B. and Ian T. White.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Chapman; one sister-in-law, Donna Chapman; one daughter-in-law, Dawn Chapman; two brothers-in-law, Willard and John; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday April 5, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. with visitation from 3:30 till time of service at the Burlington United Methodist Church in Burlington, IL. Burial will be in the Burlington Township Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Brian William. A luncheon will follow at the Church Hall.
