Robert W. Meier, age 80 of Monticello, died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the New Glarus Home. Bob was born on July 13, 1937 in Janesville, the son of William G. and Bernice M. (Behnke) Meier. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1955 and served in the National Guard from 1955 until 1961. Bob and Barbara A. Studer were married on September 22, 1956 in Monticello. The couple farmed on the Meier home farm in Mt. Pleasant Township from 1955 until retiring in 2001. Bob was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello and the National Farming Organization. Farming and conservation were Bob's work and his hobby. Bob enjoyed hunting in his younger years. He loved spending time at Lake Wisconsin with family and friends, traveling to visit his brother in California, and dancing to the music of Greg Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Barb Meier of Monticello; a daughter, Virginia Meier of Belleville; a son, Dale (Dawn) Meier of Monroe; six grandchildren, Josh Meier, John Wild, Gavin Wels, Calsea Garbe, Rachel Meier, and Jacob Meier; and three great grandchildren, Trytin Wild, Juliet Meier, and Ryvin Wild. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Meier; sister, Mardell Meier; and brother, Ronald Meier.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 12:00 p.m., at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Reverend Lance Smith officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Robert's name.
