Robert L. Preston, age 90, of Monroe, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born February 28, 1918, the son of William and Elsie (Finn) Preston. He attended Reilly Grade School, graduated from Juda High School, and finished the Short Course at the U.W. School of Agriculture.
Robert married Isabel Beightol on September 2, 1940, he later married Olga Heyn on June 8, 1988.
He farmed in the Juda area until 1955, and then worked as District Director for Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. Robert was a member of Smith Masonic Lodge #31 in Monroe, he was a member of Green County School Committee, and maintained a lifelong love for horses and ponies. For 25 years he enjoyed wintering in Sebring, Florida.
Surviving are his wife, Olga, Monroe; his son, Gary Preston of Juda; and daughter, Bobette Preston of Brodhead; one sister, Sue Helland of Juda; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also there are 3 nephews, that lived with Robert for 2 years, Steve, Tom, and Bruce Matzke, along with other nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; brother, Arthur; and wife, Isabel.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Officiating will be Monsignor Thomas Campion. Private graveside services will be held at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Juda. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Apostolate to the Handicapped.
