Robert E. "Sonny" Grossen age 71 of Monroe, died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. Sonny was born November 11, 1942 in Monroe, the son of Robert C. and Margaret Mary Marie (Sarbacker) Grossen. He married Julia Willison on September 2, 1960 in Monroe. Sonny farmed in Mt. Pleasant Township until 1972 and worked for Laidlaw Corp. in Monticello for 32 years until retiring in 2004. He enjoyed playing slowpitch for many years, bowling, throwing horseshoes, golfing, hunting, fishing, and collecting baseball cards since he was a young boy.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Grossen of Monroe; seven children, Kathy Grossen (Kathy Blackmer) of Loves Park, IL, Tim (Jody) Grossen of Monroe, Tom (Deb) Grossen of Brooklyn, WI, Roberta Grossen of Albany, Toby (Lisa) Grossen of Sauk City, Ted Grossen and Marcus Grossen, both of Monroe; 9 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jim (Debbie) Grossen of Monticello, and Randy Grossen of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joann Plevak and Ellen Grossen; and one brother, Dicky Grossen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in his name.
