LENA - Robert E. "Bob" Johnson, age 69, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 after a sudden illness at Freeport Memorial Hospital. He was born February 15, 1938, near Shellsburg, Iowa, to Robert S. and Marjorie (Primrose) Johnson. He grew up near La Porte City, IA. Robert graduated from La Porte City High School in 1956.

He enlisted in the Army in 1956 for 6 months. He was in the Army Reserve for 6 years.

He married Karen Bauer on August 15, 1959 in Brandon, IA. They moved to Winslow, IL in March 1965 and then moved to Lena, IL in January 1973.

Robert was employed as a carpenter for many years and was presently employed at Sullivan's Grocery in Lena, IL.

He was an avid sports fan, especially golfing.

Robert is survived by his wife, Karen, two daughters, Brenda (Rod) Hale and Toni Reed and friend Todd Lloyd, all of Lena, IL; nine grandchildren, Eric, Sierra, Skylar and Jordan Hale, and Randy, Nicole, Samantha and Dylan Reed, and Eric Huerta; one great-grandson, Preston Reed; one great-granddaughter soon to be born; one son-in-law, Dave Reed; two sisters, Dolores (Myron) Thorn of Las Vegas, NV., Pat (Gary) Knoop of Hiawatha, IA.; one brother, Ron of Marion, IA; one aunt, Opal Primrose of Marion, IA; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Raymond Jr. and Christopher Love; one brother, Tom; one nephew, Tommy Johnson; and his mother and father in-law, Walter and Lucille Bauer.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Leamon Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Leamon Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Erb will officiate the service. Internment will be at Lena Burial Park. A memorial has been established in his name.
