GRATIOT - Robert C. Opie, 75, of Gratiot, WI passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on September 30, 1939 to Lyle and Dorothy (Dawson) Opie in Freeport, IL. Robert married Dorothy Wiegel on September 4, 1996 in Hahns Peak Colorado. He was a life-long farmer in the rural Gratiot area. He loved farming, hunting, restoring old tractors and NASCAR.
Robert is survived by his wife Dorothy, of Gratiot, WI and her son Jason (Lisa) Wiegel of Irmo, SC; two granddaughters Kaelyn and Lauren Wiegel of Irmo, SC; siblings Janan (Don) Martens of Santa Ana, CA and James (Judy) Opie of Deerfield, WI; nieces and nephews Kim (Gregg Zahr) Cooper of Palo Alto, CA, Diane (Terry) Reed of Newport Beach, CA, Kurt (Patty) Opie of McFarland, WI, and Susie Linden of Glendale, AZ.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, IL.
A visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home.
Cremation rights have been accorded.
Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
Rev. Randy Nicholas will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
