NEW GLARUS - Richard W. Voegeli, age 79, of New Glarus, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on February 19, 1930 in Monroe, WI, to Walter and Lydia (Blum) Voegeli. Richard was raised on the Voegeli farm and worked on the Hickory Farms, and at the New Glarus Dairy. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1948. On August 24, 1952 he was united in marriage to Darlene L. Hoesly at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. In 1960 he became the owner and operator of the New Glarus Dairy, and in 1966 he purchased the Swiss Maid Cheese Store. Later in 1967, he sold the dairy and continued to run the cheese store until 1985. Richard then worked for Ryser Brothers in Mt. Horeb, and in 1987 started with the New Glarus School District until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus and served for seven years on the consistory. Richard was a past-president and member of the New Glarus Chamber, and was a charter member of the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club. He loved music and for many years he played with the Bill Hartwig Polka Band of Monroe, WI. Following retirement Richard enjoyed playing golf, wintering in Arizona, and watching and cheering on his grandchildren in their sports.

Richard is survived by a son, Dale (Kathy) Voegeli of Waunakee, WI; a daughter, Diane (Larry) Powers of Lone Rock, WI; seven grandchildren: Aaron Voegeli of Madison, WI, Alyssa Voegeli of Costa Rica, Alex Voegeli of Waunakee, WI, Erika Henry of Madison, WI, Melanie Powers of Dodgeville, WI, Joel Powers of Middleton, WI, and Sean Powers of New Glarus; and a sister, Caroline (Warren) Ingram of Madison, WI.

He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene in 2006, his father in 1939, and mother in 1988.

Funeral services will be held on at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 5th Avenue, New Glarus, WI with the Rev. John Jewell officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.

A memorial fund has been established in his memory.
