Richard R. Sigafus, age 77, of South Wayne, died on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on April 23, 1931 in JoDaviess, County, Illinois, the son of Benjamin "Harry" and Mary (Metcalf) Sigafus. Richard and Carol Jean Maves were married on July 19, 1952. Richard farmed and worked construction in the South Wayne area the greater part of his life.
Surviving are: his children, Scott Sigafus, Randy (Jennifer) Sigafus, all of South Wayne area, Paula (Michael) Ovist of Beloit, Lorna (Tony) Riedel of Winslow, IL, Karen (Dave) Zimmerman of Verona, Mary Peters of Beloit; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Earl (Paula) Sigafus of Couch, MO, John (Rita) Sigafus of Browntown; sisters, Viva Manthei of Forreston, IL, Helen Fox of Freeport, IL, Dolly Siemens of Shannon, IL, Harriet (Ralph) Fryer of Freeport, IL, Carol (Gary) Meier of South Wayne; sister-in-law, Charlene Sigafus of Valley Mills, TX. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Carol 1998; son, Dennis 1979; brothers, Mike, Charlie and Gordon; sisters, Violet and Eleanor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in South Wayne. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis Perger, with burial in Union Cemetery in South Wayne. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church. A memorial fund is being established in Richard's memory. The Hanson Funeral Home is serving the family.
