MADISON - Richard Lee "Dick" Komprood, age 62, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on July 24, 1945, in Monroe, to Lester and Hazel (Thompson) Komprood. Dick graduated from Monticello High School. He married Karen Mayer on Feb. 28, 1965. Dick worked as a Ford mechanic for 40 years and also at Wagner Dairy. He was a Blooming Grove volunteer firefighter for 22 years, a life member of North Bristol Sportsman Club, and a member of the Cottage Grove Snowmobile Club. Dick was very devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling, hunting, fishing, camping, playing softball and was a NASCAR racing fan.
Dick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen; children, Richard Jr. (Michelle) Komprood of Madison and Sergeant Kenneth Komprood (friend, Capri) of Moore, Okla.; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Mitchell and Alexander Komprood, and Aleigha Fleming; step-grandchildren, Devon and Karin Staley; three brothers, Leonard (Annie) of Monticello, Harry (Joyce) of Russelville, Ark. and Paul (Cheryl) of Monroe; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Amanda and Betty Ann; and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, with the Rev. Susanne Burwell presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008. Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund to be established.
