AudAudrey (Holtshopple) Matthews, 78, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in her home. Born March 25, 1934 in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Allie & Grace (Goecks) Holtshopple. She was a graduate of Monroe High School, Class of 1952. She attended Edgewood Academy in Madison, Beloit College and Rock Valley College. In 1963, Audrey married Jack Matthews in Janesville. Jack passed away in 2002. Audrey worked most of her life in the medical field, holding positions at the Monroe Clinic, Pember Nuzum Clinic in Janesville, Family Medical Center & Psychiatric Associates in Rockford. She was a founding member and past president of the Rock County & Wisconsin State Medical Assistants. Audrey was active in Girl Scouts of America starting out as a Brownie and ending as a troop leader. She taught Sunday school and was director of the junior and youth choirs at United Evangelical Church in Monroe and Second Congregational Church in Janesville. Audrey and Jack vacationed in Door County for forty years, making lifelong friendships and creating many cherished memories. Audrey loved to entertain and was happiest when cooking for others, catering parties and creating gourmet dishes. In the past several years she wrote 2 cookbooks in order to share her favorite recipes with family and friends. Audrey was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan and known to many as "the Packer lady." She loved her Wisconsin Badgers as well.

Audrey is survived by her nephew, Michael Hoesly, Windsor, CA; aunts, Belva Zwygart and Marian Ackerman, both of Monroe, WI, and Kathryn Summerfield, Beloit, WI; uncle, Robert (Mary) Holtshopple, Madison, WI; great nephews, Matthew and Andrew Hoesly, both of CA, numerous cousins and many friends. Predeceased by her parents, Allie and Grace, husband, Jack and brother, Allan "Butch" Holtshopple.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, WI with Pastor Gretchen Sylvester of St. Johns United Church of Christ officiating.
