NEW GLARUS - A burglary in New Glarus reported Sept. 24 could be connected to a previous burglary, according to police Sgt. Jeff Sturdevant.
However, a recent series of thefts from parked vehicles are "crimes of opportunity" most likely being committed by teen or young adult males seen running from the different scenes, said Sturdevant.
"We have been having a lot of little thefts," said Sturdevant. "But they are not breaking in."
Drivers are leaving their cars unlocked and their valuables in sight.
Several recent thefts remain under investigation.
About 20 similar thefts reported earlier this year in New Glarus have been solved, he said.
New Glarus Chief Steve Allbaugh reminds people to continue to lock their vehicles and remove valuables to deter theft.
Additionally, a second recent home burglary in New Glarus is being investigated.
Police reported a forced entry had been made through the garage door of a home on 3rd Street. Compact discs and a small amount of money were reported stolen out of a parked vehicle. The break-in reportedly occurred during the night before it was discovered, and reported at about 11 a.m. Sept. 24.
Both cases are still under investigation.
Anyone with information on these or any crime is requested to contact the New Glarus Police Department at 527-2145.
